Applying for a Position

Thank you for considering applying for a position within Tristar Medical Group. The following information has been designed to assist you in understanding our recruitment process and provide you with advice on how to create a job application and prepare you for an interview.

Our Recruitment Process

Estimated timelines for the steps in our usual recruitment process are:
  • Advertising - 2-3 weeks
  • Shortlisting - 2-3 weeks
  • Interviews - 1-2 weeks
  • Offer of Employment - 1-2 weeks

Total of approximately 8-10 weeks

How to Apply

Applications:
  • Must be made in writing (i.e. typed)
  • Must be received by the closing date and time specified
  • Will be accepted by email, post, facsimile or in person. (Please note that it is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that their application is posted with sufficient time to allow for the closing date and time to be met)
  • Should be in the form of:
    • a Covering Letter
    • statement addressing the Key Selection Criteria (where specified)
    • a Current Resume

Covering Letter

The Covering Letter should introduce you and outline your skills, abilities, qualifications and experience. Ensure the covering letter refers to the Position Title and Position Reference Number.

Resume/Curriculum Vitae

Your Resume should provide current information and include personal details, relevant employment history, key skills, education, training and qualifications. The details of at least three (3) contactable Referees (one of which should be your most recent employer) are to be included in your resume.

Key Selection Criteria

Where specified, applicants are required to address the Key Selection Criteria referred to in the Position Description (PD). The Key Selection Criteria assists in the selection of candidates, as it measures the applicant's experience, skills, abilities, knowledge and qualifications against the position requirements.

Essential Criteria -are certain skills, experience and qualifications which are highly important to the position.

Desirable Criteria -are certain skills, experience and qualifications which are important to the position but not compulsory, however fulfilling such criteria may improve your chances of being shortlisted.

Responses to the selection criteria should be detailed yet brief, providing examples of how you meet the requirements is the best way to respond to the selection criteria.

Ensure

  • You obtain a Position Description and read it carefully, noting the closing date for applications
  • You submit a Covering Letter, Resume and Statement Addressing the Key Selection Criteria (where specified)
  • The Position Title and Position Reference Number is included on your application
  • A telephone contact number is included in your application

The interview

  • Applicants who most closely meet the position requirements will be offered an interview
  • You will be contacted by phone, failing attempts by email, if you have been selected for an interview. Please note, only successful applicants will be contacted
  • You will be provided with details regarding the time, day and location of the interview
  • Please contact the Human Resource Department if you are running late, can not attend the interview or wish to withdraw from the process
  • You may be required to fill out an Application for Employment form prior to the interview, if so, this will be emailed to you
  • You may be required to bring a current colour photograph to the interview, this is for identification purposes only
  • The interview panel will usually consist of a member of the Human Resource Department and the Supervisor of the position
  • During the interview, panel members will ask questions in relation to the position requirements
  • You will have an opportunity to ask questions in the interview
  • If you have not provided referee details on your resume, please provide them at the interview; referee checks will be conducted for the preferred candidate following the interview

After the interview

The successful applicant:
  • Will have reference checks conducted
  • Will be notified by phone and the start date/time will be agreed
  • Upon commencement, a contract of employment will be provided
  • All successful applicants will be required to undergo a National Police Check
Other applicants:
  • All other interviewed applicants will be advised by email
  • Unsuccessful applicants are able to contact the Human Resource Department for feedback on their application and interview
  • Your application and details will be kept on file for future reference and consideration, unless you notify otherwise

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

Can I provide you with a resume even if a position is not currently advertised?
Yes. However, Tristar Medical Group will usually only recruit staff when there is a vacancy. If a position is subsequently advertised you will need to prepare a new application complete with a covering letter, your current resume and statement addressing selection criteria (where required).

How long does Tristar Medical Group keep my application on file?
Tristar Medical Group keeps applications for advertised vacancies on file for 6 months. However, if another position is advertised you will still need to prepare a new application.

How do I know if I have been successful in gaining an interview?
Applicants that have been shortlisted for an interview will be contacted by phone (or email if attempts to contact by phone fail) to arrange an interview time, this is usually within 2-3 weeks of the closing date. Due to the number of applications received, we are unable to notify unsuccessful applicants.

What do I need to bring to the interview?
You may be required to bring a completed Application for Employment form, if so, this will be emailed to you prior to the interview. With this, a current coloured photograph is required; this is for identification purposes only.
